Q: Is Teacher Education University accredited?

A: Teacher Education University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their state, county, district or school to ensure that all requirements are being met.

Q: Which master’s degrees are currently offered online at Teacher Education University?

A: Three master’s degrees are currently offered online. You can earn a Master of Arts degree in Education, Educational Leadership or Educational Technology. Specific information is available in our online catalog.

Q: How many credits are required for a master’s degree and how long would it take to get through the program?

A: Students must complete 36 credits for each of these programs or 12 courses. Admissions counselors and faculty advisors are available to conference with students regarding program length. Courses are offered three semesters per calendar year.

Q: I'll be out of town briefly while I am taking an online class. Will that be a problem?

A: One of the benefits of online learning is that you can access your online class from anywhere as long as you have access to a computer and the Internet. Or, if you are going to be out of town when an assignment is due, you have the option to complete the assignment early or make other arrangements with your instructor.

Q: What is required to participate in online classes?

A: All online course participants must have Internet access, an active email account, basic knowledge of how to use a web browser application, and basic knowledge of a word processing program. Students must also be able to run an antivirus application to ensure that all files are virus free.

Q: All online classes recommend using Netscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer as your web browser application. Can I also use the browser that comes with America Online?

A: If you are using America Online, we recommend using version 5.0 or above. You can download the latest versions of Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer or AOL's software by visiting the appropriate web site for each – Netscape.com; Microsoft.com and AOL.com.

Q: Is there any financial aid available?

A: At the current time, Teacher Education University does not participate in any local, state, or federal financial aid programs. Scholarships are offered.

Q: What is the current tuition per graduate credit?

A: Graduate tuition for 2006 is $220 per credit. Other fees are listed in the online catalog.


Q: How many graduate credits are transferable into the Teacher Education University master’s programs?

A: It is possible to transfer up to 6 graduate credits earned from an accredited university if the courses have been successfully completed and are comparable with Teacher Education University courses. All proposed transfer credits must be reviewed and approved by the Program Director.

Q: Are taking classes online really a good way to learn?

A: Many studies have found that online learning can be as effective as traditional classroom learning. Online learning allows you to study at a time and place suited to your needs and still allows you the opportunity to interact with instructors as well as other students. Please keep in mind that Teacher Education University programs are rigorous in nature.

Q: How can I have my questions answered?

A: Students have access to admissions counselors and faculty advisors through email, telephone, and online office hours. Questions concerning enrollment and other administrative matters can be answered by accessing the online catalog or by calling 800- 523-1578.

Q: What are the steps for the application and enrollment process?

A: Students must submit the application form along with the required documents. If accepted to Teacher Education University, the student must submit a completed Enrollment Agreement.

Q: Will I have an advisor?

A: Students are assigned a faculty advisor once they are accepted into one of the university programs. At that time, the email address and other contact information for the faculty advisor will be provided.

Q: Does Teacher Education University have a bookstore? Where can I purchase my course materials?

A: Course materials are available for purchase through Teacher Education University.

Q: How will I be graded?

A: Grades for each course are awarded on a four-point system.

Q: Are there any special requirements for international students?

A: International students without English as their primary language must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) to determine English language skills.

Q: Does Teacher Education University offer placement services?

A: Placement assistance is available through Teacher Education University for students and graduates at no cost. Access to placement statistics, career information and job search reference materials is available. This service is a joint effort between the faculty, placement staff, and students.

Q. Is the GRE a prerequisite?

A. The GRE is not required for admission.

Q. What is a practicum?

A. A practicum is a project in action, involving working through an identified plan in your educational setting. In short, you identify a problem in your educational setting and use the methods you learn during your coursework to implement a solution to the problem. You may complete the practicum at your current educational institution or an alternative location agreed upon by you and the professor.

Q. Will the Masters in Educational Leadership make me eligible to become a principal?

A. The Masters in Educational Leadership program was designed with state educational leadership standards in mind. Check with your state Department of Education to verify the Masters in Educational Leadership degree requirements for Teacher Education University meet the individual requirements for your state.
