Below is a quick
tour to help you get acquainted with Questia.

You can access
Questia through http://www.questia.com.
A log in area is located on the home page. When you log into
Questia the first time with the user name and password issued
by Teacher Education University, you will be directed to a
registration form. When completing the registration form,
you can create your own user name and password. The user name
and password will be known to you and Questia. Teacher Education
University WILL NOT be notified of the user name and password
you create.
Once you have logged
in, you will see your personalized login page.

Here you can access
various resources such as quick links to subjects, research
tools, and recent items you used. Tabs on the top of the page
link to the Questia Search Engine, and items selected for
review by instructors.
Conduct
Research Using Questia

When conducting
research, using Questia, you have a variety of search options,
such as title, author or keyword.
To search for information,
simply enter the criteria, such as author name or the subject
you are searching, such as portfolios.
Each search can
include information found in:
• Books
• Journals
• Magazines
• Newspapers
• Encyclopedia
• Research Topics
You select which
types of publications by checking the box to the left of the
publication type.
After entering
search criteria, click on the search button at the bottom
of the search page. A search results page will appear listing
the items matching your search results. To view an item, click
on the title. To select an item for future viewing, click
on Add To Bookshelf. Items on the bookshelf can be accessed
from your personal home page.
Research
Tools

Once you have selected
an item, many tools are available to help make your research
more efficient, you can choose parts to view by clicking on
the links on the left hand side.
Various online
research tools located at the top of the page are provided
to help you with online notetaking. As you read the items
online, you can select text then click on the highlight tool
to highlight important items. You even have a selction of
highlight colors.
If you have to
take a break during your reading, the Bookmark tool
will create a link for you so you can return to that page
later.
Just like writing
notes in the margin of a book, the Add Note tool allows
you to write a note about what you read.
When writing a
paper, you can use the Quote / Cite tool to
create a citation to copy and paste into your word processing
document.
If you are citing
from an article, you can also easily include it in your bibliography
by clicking on the Bibliography tool .
